MONTANA BEAR Report: Learn what is new in your region with the statewide Montana BEAR Program.

Please review the progress of the statewide Montana BEAR program by reading the monthly report. The MEDA BEAR Working Group is scheduled for a conference call on November 7th at 10:00am.

According to data entered into the ExecutivePulse software, 36 business visits were conducted in the month of October. Wow! The leading Outreach Specialist was Kathy Moodu with five visits, followed by Melissa Kramer with four. Great work, everyone!

In December, 20,000 businesses in Montana will receive 2007 Economic Census forms from the U.S. Census Bureau. Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke has called this census "indispensable to understanding America's economy." Taken every five years, the Economic Census "assures the accuracy of the statistics we rely on for sound economic policy and for successful business planning," said Bernanke. There are a lot of interesting facts from the last Economic Census available for Montana at business.census.gov. Examples there illustrate how the data are used by local businesses for marketing and planning, as well as by government agencies and researchers. To check out how many forms will be mailed by county, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, visit the Census Bureau's web site at http://www.census.gov/econ/census07/forms/MTFORMS.HTM For assistance, contact CEIC staff at ceic@mt.gov or (406) 841-2740.

My Turn: This-n-That from the MEDA Office
Hopefully by now you have clicked on the MEDA Conference Highlights and enjoyed the photos and reviewed some of the presentations. The feedback from the IEDC training was tremendously positive in that 44 of the 52 people attending plan to become certified. Great news. Evaluations received from the MEDA conference were generally positive as well. It has been suggested by a number of you that MEDA organize a Program Committee to ensure more creative and effective conference agendas in the future. With your input and creativity in the mix, I am already anticipating the spring conference. On a personal note, thanks to each of you who took the time to visit with my 100 year old Grandmother at the Charlie Russell Museum on Thursdsay night. She had a most delightful evening "with the young people" thanks to your kindness.

A Success Story....
